PROJECT OVERVIEW

Set in the rich ecology and steep slopes of mountainous Rappahannock County, this home, greenhouse, and event space is designed to both fit into the landscape and perch above it. The materials of the structure reflect this strategy, with a stone / masonry base set into the hillside, providing on-grade access to a meadow below.  A light and airy treehouse-like volume perches on top, which provides both an up-hill connection to the productive courtyard and a downhill connection to the gorgeous mountain view beyond.  This project is a collaboration with Cohort Landscape Architecture, who helped guide a larger masterplan with a guest house, barn, working gardens, and other outdoor amenities.

Project completed at Wolf Ackerman while serving the role of Project Architect and image renderer.

The house was conceived as a two-part structure to work with the natural contouring of the land. It has a stone base embedded in the earth and a lighter, wooden volume perched above as a sort of treehouse.
