PROJECT OVERVIEW

Located in Atitlan, Guatemala, La Puerta Abierta (“The Open Door”) is an inspiring school in need of an addition to their existing facilities. Working in collaboration with Wolf Ackerman Design and Building Goodness Foundation, we’ve worked to create an extension which contains three classrooms, a multipurpose space, kitchen, and covered terrace. We’ve worked to use local building materials and techniques in functional and creative whimsical manners. The hope is that this facility works to empower children and families to use creativity, critical thinking and literacy to become problem solvers and leaders within their community.

The design seeks to provide functional spaces that can adapt to the schools needs over time. Larger communal spaces on the second floor can easily be converted to classrooms as the school grows.
