PROJECT OVERVIEW

Designed for an artist and avid cyclists, this detached backyard structure was imagined as a flexible retreat for making, tinkering, and hosting. The ground floor is dedicated to the practical and messy work of daily life, housing a pottery studio, bike workshop, and generous storage space. Above, a light-filled studio apartment opens onto a deck and loft, creating a warm and adaptable environment for painting, cooking, gathering, or overnight guests. The upper level is organized into two simple volumes: a double-height living and studio space, and a more compact service zone containing a kitchenette, bathroom, laundry, with a sleeping loft above. Accessed by an exterior stair, the project balances efficiency, economy, and functionality while creating a distinct and inspiring place apart from the main house.
